Distribution is one of the 4 aspects of marketing. A distributor is
the middleman between the manufacturer and retailer. After a product is
manufactured it is typically shipped (and usually sold) to a distributor.
They do the
warehousing and distribution.
The distributor then sells the product to retailers or customers. This is
fulfillment and distribution,
Wholesaling is the sale of goods or merchandise to retailers, to
industrial, commercial, institutional, or other professional business
users, or to other wholesalers and related subordinated services.

According to the United Nations
Statistics Division, Wholesale is the resale (sale without
transformation) of new and used goods to retailers, to industrial,
commercial, institutional or professional users, or to other
wholesalers, or involves acting as an agent or broker in buying
merchandise for, or selling merchandise, to such persons or companies.
Wholesalers frequently physically assemble, sort and grade goods in
large lots, break bulk, repack and redistribute in smaller lots.
However, with the advent of the Internet, the wholesale landscape has
changed dramatically.
Many online businesses and home business
make money fast, selling on ebay, or from their own website
discounted, closeouts, or clearance, items like electronics, gifts,
clothing, toys, jewelry (and much more) that they purchase from
manufacturing companies,
distributors,
dropship suppliers or liquidators that do drop shipping directly to
their customers. If the retailer sells in a high enough volume the
wholesaler may even put the retailers company label on the package.
